The CCBA Afterschool Program
Objectives, Benefits, and Logistics
We encourage curiosity and celebrate diversity.
MISSION: To promote social and emotional learning, and help each child build resilience through promoting cooperation, problem-solving, community-building, and connections.
VISION: We are working towards a world where every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
VALUES: Respect, Kindness, Communication, and Courage.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The CCBA Afterschool Program runs from the first day of school through the last day of school. We are a state-licensed program and can accommodate up to 60 children in kindergarten through sixth grade. The program is housed in the Carter Community Building (CCB) at 1 Campbell Street. School buses arrive at the CCB from both Lebanon elementary schools, and the middle school has a drop off on Bank Street near AVA. Children are met by staff and walk to the CCB.
Our Afterschool Program also coordinates with other youth activities. For example, our staff facilitated transfers of children to CCBA swim lessons, our Little Longhorns basketball practice, and area after school activities at neighboring organizations.
DAILY PROGRAM COMPONENTS:
- Arrival, attendance, announcements
- Healthy snack from your backpack
- Homework support
- Mindful Minutes
- Outdoor play/exploration
- Indoor gymnasium games
- Choice time
The CCB offers a large room with tables, board games, art supplies, manipulatives, and an array of toys, in addition to a quiet room for reading and homework and houses our little free library. We also have a gymnasium for group physical activity such as kickball, dodgeball, futsal and basketball games, and a large second-floor room that hosts foosball, a pool table, and myriad project tables. We have an adjacent outdoor play area, which is used daily. The children use the CCBA pool and the sprawling outside facilities around the recreation center which include a play structure, mini-turf fields, and a large open grass field. We have workbooks and games that focus on mathematics and STEM skills, as well as memory and other cognitive development skills. For the younger children we have experiences like sensory toys that help with cognitive development, fine motor skills, social and emotional development, language skills, relaxation and creativity. Our staff put time and research into the appropriate activities, tools, equipment and toys for the children we serve.
IMPROVEMENT & EVALUATION
We consistently adapt to personalize the learning experience for each child, through monitoring behaviors, bridging the gap between our program and schools when appropriate, communication with parents, and gauging progress.
